What started in October of 2004 as an idea for a simple juice bar developed into a sandwich shop offering juices, smoothies, creamsicle sodas and shakes with customized vitamin supplements. Squeeze Marfa has always carried Vollenweider chocolate from Switzerland. Vollenweider chocolate was started in 1943 by the father of Squeeze Marfa’s owner, Verena Zbinden. Her brother and his wife continue to run the family business in Winterthur and Zürich, Switzerland sending handmade chocolate to Marfa directly from the source. Squeeze Marfa is the sole US distributor of Vollenweider chocolate.
As Squeeze Marfa grew so did the menu, expanding to include a daily vegetarian soup, bratwurst, hummus with pita bread, garden salads and breakfast options including Birchermüesli – a hearty Swiss recipe of oats, fruit and yogurt, a vegan granola dish with açai, waffles and freshly baked croissants. In 2009 Squeeze Marfa added a new, state of the art, Espresso machine and began serving Espresso, Cappuccino and Café Latté.
Squeeze Marfa is proud to present Third Coast Coffee as our new House Blend coffee. Third Coast Coffee is an Austin, Texas based brand known for their Fair Trade and Organic blend coffees. Besides producing high quality, gourmet coffees, Third Coast Coffee also maintains a website with information about each coffee batch from farmer to roaster. The company is committed to developing ‘long-term, open and lasting relationships’ within the supply chain and is proud to be on the Fair Trade Register and certified Organic by the Texas Department of Agriculture.
With a focus on fresh, healthy offerings, it’s an eclectic menu sure to cater to almost any palate.
You can't argue with a family-owned restaurant that's stayed in business for half a century by serving hearty portions of down-home food at reasonable prices—especially on days or at times when other Marfa restaurants are closed. Whether you want a hefty breakfast burrito and a cup of coffee to jump-start a day of biking, a basket of chips with salsa, guacamole, and a cold beverage to energize you for an afternoon of gallery hopping, or an enchilada plate to finish off a day of hunting, you can find it here—illuminated by an eclectic assortment of neon beer signs hung on walls papered with faded vintage posters.
Go there for the tacos and the experience. Nothing better than nomming on tacos and sipping ice cold brews in Marfa on a Saturday.
Big Bend Coffee Roasters
Big Bend Coffee Roasters is small, independent coffee roaster located in beautiful Marfa, Texas. We were founded in 2008 with the support of our wonderful local community, and now enjoy supplying retailers across the great state of Texas and coffee lovers from coast to coast!
All of our coffees are certified Organic and Fair Trade, and many are also certified shade-grown and bird-friendly. We take great care to bring you the highest quality product by giving each bean the attention it deserves from harvest to roasting & packaging. We roast daily, package to order, and ship your coffee within 24 hours of roasting. Taste why Texas Highways called it ‘the best coffee ever sipped.’ (2011)
We place environmental and social justice above the bottom line, and put our money where our mouth is! Every month we donate 10% of the sales of one of our best-selling coffees to a local charity through our Give Back program. Recipients include Casa Hogar Orphanage in Ojinaga, Mexico, Marfa Food Pantry, the Jeff Davis Library after school program, and the Tri-County Child Welfare Rainbow Room project. In 2014 alone we gave over $10,000 to these and other favorite causes from the local NPR station, Marfa Public Radio, to area schools and art foundations.
